Last A.P. Biology Blog

Well I must say that A.P. Biology has been quite an experience, but a good one. :D I have learned a lot about Biology that I can apply to my life in the future. It definitley was the most challenging class I have taken but I believe it helped me learn how to study. It also gave me a taste of reality of what college classes will really be like.
If you are reading this then you are in A.P. Biology class. Welcome!!!:D You probably have the same thoughts I did going into the class. What is it going to be like? Should I be worried? Well, I am here to tell you that it will be ok :D This class is a challenge, but a good one.If I had to give you a couple pieces of advice, I would say to make sure and take good notes in class and go home and read the book for information and take notes again.Take advantage of the extra credit reading guides because not only are you getting extra credit but it is also helping you to study. Be sure to study!! The topics in this class force you to go to a whole another level of thinking. This class is a challenge and I am not going to lie and say its easy, because it's not. It was a challenge, but it was great to learn a lot of new things that can be applied over and over. I am also one step closer to being prepared for college. If I had to go back, I would gladly do it again. Well, I wish you the best of luck and I hope you learn as much as I did.
From one A.P. Bio student to another,
                                                 Afton :D

Vote Golgi!

A place for everything and everything in its' place. We work hard so you don't have to!
Check out the following information before you vote:
Function:
  • Plays a role in the creation of plasma membranes
  • Manufactures lysosomes
  • Modifies  and sorts proteins and lipids
You may be asking why is this important. The Golgi is important because without it cell material would not be transported or fixed before being sent by the Golgi to the places they need to go. The Golgi is much like a post office. Mail comes in and is labeled and sent out all over the world. WIthout the post office mail would not be sent, which means bills, christmas cards, and other important information would never be sent out. In the same way the Golgi takes in proteins and lipids, adds a "label", fixes them, and then sends them to the surface of the cell. Without the Golgi, proteins and lipids would not be sent out in the most benefitial form.
Please vote Golgi for president as it is a hardworking, beneficial part of the cell!!:D

Sparta High School Homecoming

Homecoming at Sparta High School is like no other homecoming . At Sparta, are homecoming is four grades competing for the red apple. Dress up days throughout the week based upon the theme helps bring school spirit in preparation for Friday. This years theme was musicals. Penny-a-point  and the food drive not only benefits the students but also help people in need. On Friday, the showdown begins:). The day starts out with homecoming court members giving amazing speeches.Than we play games for most of the afternoon, adding points in hopes of winning the red apple. In addition, each grade comes up with a float and mock rock.(Seniors, your Mock rock was AWESOME!!)It was a ton of fun this year!!!!:) Sadly, the juniors could not compete with the seniors and got beat by the sophomores:( My favorite part of homecoming is coming back on Friday night as one school t and watching the football game!
P.S. I just want to thank the teacher because without them we would have nothing at homecoming  They take a lot of time out of their schedule for us to have a fun week!So thanks!

Human Ecological Stupidity-Ozone Depletion

The ozone is an important part of Earth. The ozone is a highly reactive molecule that takes up residence in the stratosphere. It's main purpose is to protect the Earth from UV rays that are harmful. The more harmful UV rays can be cancer-causing. The ozone has been depleting because of the use of a substance called CFC's or Chlorofluorocarbons. These were found in aerosol containers because they contained CFC's. The UV rays break down the CFC's and one of the substances is chlorine. Chlorine is highly reactive with the ozone ,therefore breaking it down. CFC's were banned by The United States and Europe, but other countries banned before that. By then, it was too late and it will take a while for it to settle back down.Sadly, we humans messed up big time and had a huge effect on the environment and will continue to have to live with the consequences.

AP Biology Topics

I am very glad that I decided to take this class. I think it will really be helpful in preparing for college and the reality of all the homework and reading it will be. The topic I am most excited for is the heredity and molecular genetics units. In general Biology that was my favorite because it is so interesting. I am least looking forward to 2 units. I do not believe in the Theory of evolution, I believe that God is the only true creator of life and He made the world in 7 days. I am also not looking forward to the unit that we are in now, ecological interactions. I don't find that as interesting but it hasn't been to bad. :D

First AP Biology Blog

Hey everyone! My name is Afton Scott. I have 3 sibilings.I also have a niece and a nephew on the way. I enjoy attending church and youth group. My favorite color is orange. On the weekend you can find me watching football. I am a Michigan fan.:) You may also find me reading a book. My favorite activities include playing tennis, reading, swimming, and hanging out with family and friends.
I took this class because I really like science and I want to be prepared for college. I hope to attend Grand Valley State University and go into something medical. I am leaning towards sports medicine, but that could change. I know this class will be beneficial and I hope to learn a lot.
